Miles Teller to star as Goose's son in Top Gun sequel
Miles Teller has become the latest addition to the cast of Joseph Kosinski's upcoming sequel to 1986 hit Top Gun, with the Whiplash star landing a key role as the son of Nick “Goose” Bradshaw, the former Radio Intercept Officer and best friend of Tom Cruise's Pete "Maverick" Mitchell.
Goose's son is set to become Maverick's new protégé in the new movie Top Gun: Maverick, which will see Cruise return to reprise his iconic role to train a new generation of fighter pilots. Val Kilmer is also set to return as Maverick's rival Tom “Iceman” Kazansky.
Production on Kosinski's sequel is already underway, but so far Kilmer, Cruise and Teller are the only confirmed cast members and most of the plot details remain under wraps, although the story is understood to revolve around training pilots in an age where airborne warfare is dominated by the use of drones.
Director Kosinski has some previous form when it comes to bringing 80s classics back to the screen, having been the man calling the shots on TRON: Legacy in 2010. The new film will also feature a score from legendary composer Harold Faltermeyer, who provided the score for Tony Scott's 1986 original film and other iconic 80s film scores such asthe one he wrote for Beverly Hills Cop.
There's no confirmed UK release date for Top Gun: Maverick as yet but the film is currently slated to arrive in US cinemas on July 12th 2019.
