Miranda Richardson joins the cast of HBO's Game of Thrones prequel
The upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series being masterminded by Jane Goldman and George R.R. Martin has added another star to its growing cast, with Miranda Richardson becoming the latest confirmed addition.
Richardson has long been a beloved figure in the UK thanks to her iconic and hilarious portrayal of Queen Elizabeth I in BBC comedy Blackadder, but is also well-known to Harry Potter fans for her role as Rita Skeeter and is due to appear in Neil Gaiman's upcoming series Good Omens.
Richardson joins a cast that already includes two other Wizarding World alumni in Fantastic Beasts' Toby Regbo and Jamie Campbell Bower, as well as Denise Gough, Lady Macbeth's Naomi Ackie and Humans star Ivanno Jeremiah.
Details about the plot of the new prequel are scarce and the series doesn't yet have a confirmed title, but we do know that it will be set thousands of years before the events depicted in Game of Thrones and will include revelations about the true origins of the White Walkers, as well as some horrifying secrets about the history of Westeros.
British director S. J. Clarkson is set to helm the new show's first episode, which is due to begin shooting in July this year following the finale of Game of Thrones' final season.
