"It always gets grander and bigger somehow..." - hmv.com talks to the cast of Mission Impossible: Fallout
First launched as a TV series on CBS which ran from 1966 to 1973, Mission: Impossible was quick to capture the public's imagination with its iconic Lalo Schifrin theme and stories of secret agents and self-destructing tapes doling out dangerous missions for the operatives of the Impossible Mission Force (IMF).
Mission: Impossible has been an enduring presence on screens ever since, being revived on TV in the 1980s before Brian De Palma's 1996 adaptation turned the franchise into a big hit in cinemas too. Since then, Tom Cruise has reprised his role as IMF agent Ethan Hunt on several occasions, with each instalment bidding to outdo the last even more death-defying stunts and high-octane action.
This week will see the arrival of the sixth movie in the franchise in UK cinemas, with Tom Cruise back once again alongside returning cast members Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Sean Harris, Alec Baldwin and Rebecca Ferguson, as well as some new additions including The Crown's Vanessa Kirby and Superman himself, Henry Cavill.
Mission Impossible: Fallout picks up roughly where predecessor Rogue Nation left off and sees Ethan Hunt and his team battling against a plot to steal and detonate three nuclear warheads, with Christopher McQuarrie returning to direct for the second time.
With the new film arriving in cinemas on Wednesday (July 25th), we caught up with stars Henry Cavill, Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg and Vanessa Kirby to talk about what we can expect this time around...
