Moonlight and La La Land are big winners at 2017 Oscars, but ceremony mired by mix-up over Best Picture Winner

La La Land was the best winner at the 2017 Oscars with six awards, but missed out to Moonlight in the race for Best Picture in controversial circumstances.

While announcing the award for Best Picture, presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway were handed the previous winner's envelope, containing a card saying "Emma Stone, La La Land", resulting in the error. The team from La La Land were in the middle of their acceptance speeches when the mistake was discovered and the mix-up corrected. You can see the palaver below:

Although it ultimately missed out on the award for Best Picture, La La Land did have a very good night, winning Best Actress for Emma Stone, Best Director for Damien Chazelle, Best Original Score, Song, Cinematography and Production Design.

Moonlight also picked up two further awards, Best Supporting Actor for Mahershala Ali and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Casey Affleck continued his triumphant year by winning Best Actor for Manchester By The Sea, which also won Best Original Screenplay. Viola Davis picked up the award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Fences
