Moonlight's Mahershala Ali in talks to star in third season of True Detective
Mahershala Ali, best known for his Oscar-winning role in Moonlight, is in talks to star in the third season of True Detective.
According to The Tracking Board, Ali, who has just finished filming Robert Rodriguez's new action thriller Atilla: Battle Angel, is close to sealing a deal to join the show.
For the third run of the HBO series, writer and creator Nic Pizzolatto will be joined by Deadwood scribe David Milch, with Ali the only acting name currently in the frame.
There had been speculation that HBO were considering cancelling the show, with reports suggesting that new Head of Programming Casey Bloys wanted to move Pizzolatto on to a brand new project rather than return for a third outing of True Detective, but that seems to have changed.
The show's first season starred Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey as troubled detectives trying to catch a serial killer in Louisiana, with the second run starring Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Taylor Kitsch and Rachel McAdams and switching the setting to a government conspiracy in California.
