Neal Purvis and Robert Wade re-hired as James Bond screenwriters

Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, the screenwriters on Skyfall and Spectre, have returned to the fold for the next James Bond movie.

The pair, who had delivered a treatment for the new movie, departed pre-production after Danny Boyle joined as director and brought in writer John Hodge.

Boyle left the project last month and Hodge went with him, leaving producers to turn Purvis and Wade once again.

According to the Daily Mail, the pair are now turning their treatment into a script.

A source told the paper: "The Purvis and Wade treatment they wrote earlier was already signed off before the bromance with Danny Boyle and John Hodge began."

The report goes on to say that producers have a "keenness for women to be more front-and-centre" in the next movie, which is currently simply known as Bond 25.

After Boyle's departure, it was revealed last week that three directors are in the running to take the gig.

The first is Yann Demange, best known for directing fiery thriller 71, who has just finished working with Matthew McCoughaney on powerful thriller White Boy Rick. Demange previously met with producers before Boyle was chosen and is now back in contention.

The next is Bart Layton, who has directed the much acclaimed American Animals, and finally S.J. Clarkson, who is attached to take charge of the next Star Trek movie. Were Clarkson to get the gig she would become the first woman to take charge of a 007 adventure.

As previously reported, the film is expected to now emerge in 2020.

Originally, MGM were due to release the film in the United States on November 8th in 2019 through a partnership with Annapurna Pictures, with Universal Pictures handling the UK distribution and releasing on October 25th in 2019. A new release date has yet to be confirmed.

Star Daniel Craig was confirmed earlier this month to star in a new project with Star Wars: The Last Jedi's Rian Johnson, which begins production at the end of the year.

Bond 25 is widely expected to be Craig's last as 007.

Spectre, Bond's last outing, is out now on DVD and available to order from hmv's online store by clicking on the icon on the right-hand side of the page. You can check out the full Bond catalogue here in hmv's online store.
