Neil Patrick Harris to host the 2015 Oscars
Neil Patrick Harris, best known for his role as the womanising Barney Stinson in long-running sitcom How I Met Your Mother, will host the 2015 Oscars.
Harris, who can currently be seen in cinemas in Gone Girl, will host the ceremony, which will take place on February 22nd 2015 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
The actor has hosted the Tony Awards, the theatrical equivalent of the Oscars, four times.
Speaking about the role, Harris said: "It is truly an honour and a thrill to be asked to host this year's Academy Awards. I grew up watching the Oscars and was always in such awe of some of the greats who hosted the show. To be asked to follow in the footsteps of Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal, Ellen DeGeneres, and everyone else who had the great fortune of hosting is a bucket list dream come true."
Oscars producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron added: "We are thrilled to have Neil host the Oscars. We have known him his entire adult life, and we have watched him explode as a great performer in feature films, television and stage. To work with him on the Oscars is the perfect storm, all of his resources and talent coming together on a global stage."
Last year's ceremony was hosted by talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, who had been tipped to return this year, however producers have opted for Harris. She had previously hosted at the 2007 ceremony.
