New Star Wars movie in 2022 to come from Game Of Thrones showrunners
Disney have confirmed that Game Of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss will be behind the next Star Wars movie.
It was confirmed last week that three new Star Wars movies would be coming to cinemas in 2022, 2024 and 2026, though the filmmakers were unnamed.
Now, Disney chairman Bob Iger has confirmed that Benioff and Weiss would be behind the first of those movies at least, due in 2022.
Speaking at MoffettNathanson Media and Communications Summit, he said: "We’re not going to wait until nine is out to start figuring it out, we’re actually hard at work doing that now."
He continued: "We did a deal with David Benioff and Dan Weiss, who are famous for Game Of Thrones and the next movie that we release will be theirs, and we’re not saying anything more about that."
The first of the new films will arrive on December 16th in 2022, with the two other follow-ups coming on December 20th in 2024 and December 18th in 2026.
There have been no details on the status of the new trilogy The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson has been working on.
The final instalment in the Skywalker saga, Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker, arrives this year on December 19th.
