New Star Wars movie in the works from Sleight director J.D. Dillard
A new Star Wars movie is in development from up and coming director J.D Dillard.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Dillard, who is best known for writing and directing the sci-fi thriller Sleight, will work with Matt Owens, a writer on the Marvel shows Luke Cage and Agents of SHIELD, to develop the movie.
Plot details are under wraps at this point and it's unknown if there's a timeline for the new film.
This news comes a few weeks after it was revealed that Taika Waititi, director of Jojo Rabbit and What We Do In The Shadows, had also been approached to develop a Star Wars movie.
The approach for both Dillard and Waititi comes after Game Of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss abandoned plans to write and produce a new Star Wars trilogy.
The pair had signed up to write three films that would be coming to cinemas in 2022, 2024 and 2026, but have now exited to focus on their work with Netflix.
The final instalment in the Skywalker saga, Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker, is in cinemas now.
Rian Johnson, director of 2017's The Last Jedi, continues to work on a planned new trilogy, but there is no word on when that can be expected in cinemas.
