Overlord - Five Reasons You’ll Love It

JJ Abrams is busy right now with the next instalment of Star Wars, but in his downtime between The Force Awakens and beginning work on Episode IX, he found time to produce and come up with the story for new action gorefest Overlord.

Overlord stars Jovan Adepo, Jacob Anderson, Pilou Asbæk, Iain De Caestecker, John Magaro, Wyatt Russell and Bokeem Woodbine. Abrams produces with Son Of A Gun director Julius Avery taking charge.

The movie is set on the eve of D-day and follows a group of US paratroopers who are dropped behind enemy lines to infiltrate a small village.

Unfortunately, they realize the Nazis are experimenting with supernatural forces to fight them, forces that are turning soldiers into the walking dead...

The film arrives in cinemas and will be released on DVD in 2019. You can pre-order it here.

But, before all that, we caught an early screening of the movie and have rounded up five reasons why you’ll love it...

It’s action-packed…

From the second the titles are off the screen, this movie is all go. From the incredible opening sequence in a bomber trying to avoid Nazi bullets and missiles to the bloody carnage that’s to come, this is one long action thrill ride.

But there are plenty of scares…

Director Julius Avery sure knows how to do a jump scare and shock you with misdirection. You’ll be constantly surprised.

Mathilde Ollivier is a surprise revelation…

The French actress is a newcomer to the big screen, but here, as the gun-toting and whipsmart Chloe, she’s a total revelation. Expect to see a lot more of her.

Pilou Asbæk is a smarmy marvel...

The Borgen and Game Of Thrones star is on top form here as Nazi captain and general all-round not nice guy Dr Wafner. He’s smarmy, sleazy and very easy to hate. He’s an excellent villain.

It’s a total gorefest…

This film wears its 18 rating proudly on its sleeve with explosive action and some staggering gore. If that’s your thing, you’ll be like a pig in the proverbial...

Overlord is out now in cinemas and will be released on DVD in 2019.
