Paul Dano cast as the Riddler in Matt Reeves' upcoming movie The Batman
Just a couple of days after the news that Jonah Hill was no longer in talks to play one of the villains in Matt Reeves' upcoming Batman reboot, it seems that The Batman has found its Riddler.
Paul Dano, star of films such as Little Miss Sunshine and There Will Be Blood, is the man stepping into the role previously portrayed by the likes of Jim Carrey and Frank Gorshin. Dano's involvement was confirmed yesterday and will see the War & Peace star join a gradually expanding cast which already includes Robert Pattinson in the starring role, as well as Zoe Kravitz in the role of Catwoman and Westworld star Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon.
According to Warner Bros., Riddler's alter-ego will be known as Edward Nashton, breaking from the character's last appearance on the big screen in 1995 film Batman Forever, in which Jim Carrey's version was given the puntastic name of Edward Nygma.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year, Matt Reeves offered an outline of what fans can expect from his take on the caped crusader: “It’s very much a point-of-view-driven, noir Batman tale. It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional.”
Beyond that, details of the plot are being kept tightly under wraps, but with shooting rumoured to be beginning later this year there are bound to be more updates on new cast additions in the coming weeks.
The Batman is currently scheduled to arrive in cinemas in June 2021.
