Pierce Brosnan reveals he turned down the chance to be Batman
Pierce Brosnan has revealed that he turned down the chance to play Batman.
The former 007 revealed during a Reddit AMA that he turned down an offer from Tim Burton in 1989 to take on the role of the caped crusader, which eventually went to Michael Keaton, because he couldn't take the character seriously.
Asked if he'd ever been approached to be Batman, he said: "Yes, I did. I went and met with Tim Burton for the role of Batman. But I just couldn’t really take it seriously, any man who wears his underpants outside his pants just cannot be taken seriously."
He continued: "That was my foolish take on it. It was a joke, I thought. But how wrong was I? Don’t get me wrong, because I love Batman, and I grew up on Batman. As a kid in Ireland, we used to get our raincoats and tie them round our neck and swing through the bicycle shed..."
Brosnan is currently promoting new spy thriller The November Man, which is out next week in the US. A UK release date has yet to be announced. You can see the trailer below.
