Pokémon Detective Pikachu - Five Reasons You'll Love It

Since its launch in 1996, Pokémon, those small furry creatures, has accounted for sales of 279 million video games and 21.5 billion cards in 74 countries. No wonder Hollywood has come calling.

For its live-action debut, Ryan Reynolds is on board. He plays Detective Pikachu, a world-class detective and exceptionally smart Pokémon, who is forced to team up with Justice Smith's Tim Goodman, a failed Pokémon trainer and son of a respected detective, to try and track down his Father after he mysteriously goes missing.

Starring alongside Reynolds and Smith are Bill Nighy, Rita Ora, Chris Geere, Kathryn Newton and Ken Watanabe, while Goosebumps director Rob Letterman is in the director's chair.

Pokémon Detective Pikachu is out now in cinemas and will be available on DVD later this year, but, before that, we caught an early screening and have rounded up five reasons why you'll love it...

It's a lot of fun...

The budget might be huge, the star name might be there, but this is a film that has its tongue firmly in its cheek. It's a warm-hearted adventure.

And no one is having more fun than Ryan Reynolds...

Reynolds' trademark sardonic humour is a perfect fit for the character and he's on great form here. There are some great one-liners too.

The design is quite something...

The world of Pokemon is realised fully, with the quirky technology, the strange world and the wonderful inventions all brought to life in incredible detail.

It covers all bases...

If you're a long-time Pokemon fan, then you'll be in heaven as this is a film packed with references and Easter Eggs. Equally, if this is your first Pokemon experience, you'll be able to pick things up very quickly.

It doesn't outstay its welcome...

We're all done in one hour and 44 minutes, which is ideal if you're planning on taking your own little monsters to see it.
