Producer Jon Landau opens up about progress of Avatar sequels
Producer Jon Landau has opened up about the progress of the forthcoming four Avatar sequels.
The sequel to the hugely successful adventure movie was originally due to be in cinemas by Christmas 2016, but has suffered numerous delays.
It was then announced that director James Cameron would be making four sequels to the original. The second and third movie in the series are underway, with the fourth and fifth due to go into production later in 2019.
The current plan for the four movies is to release them in December 2020, December 2021, December 2024, and December 2025.
Now, speaking to hmv.com at the junket for Alita: Battle Angel, Landau has said that work is progressing well.
He said: "We're well into production on Avatar 2 and 3 and we're now getting started with Avatar 4. We've completed all of our performance capture work, so Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, David Thewlis, they've been a big part of that."
He continued: "In the spring, we're embarking on live-action filming, Giovanni Ribisi will be back and we'll be making some new castings announcements. We're thrilled with the material we're already seeing and we're thrilled with the performances."
Titles for the four sequels are thought to be Avatar: The Way of Water, Avatar: The Seed Bearer, Avatar: The Tulkun Rider and Avatar: The Quest for Eywa.
