Ready Or Not - Five Reasons You’ll Love It

Everybody loves a good old-fashioned game of Hide-and-Seek, right? Well, maybe not like this...

The concept of the centuries-old game us is taken to murderous new heights in a new film directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. Ready Or Not arrives in cinemas today and stars Samara Weaving as a young bride who marries the scion of an eccentric but extremely wealthy family, whose fortune has been built on the manufacture and sale of board games.

However, her wedding night takes an unexpectedly dark turn when she and her new husband are summoned to take part in an old family wedding tradition: a game selected at random by the pick of a card. Although the bride is initially amused at her resulting choice, a game of Hide-and-Seek, she soon discovers that this particular variant has deadly consequences for the losers.

Starring alongside Weaving is a cast that includes Andie McDowell, Adam Brody, Mark O’Brien, Nicky Guadagni and Henry Czerny. With the film arriving in UK cinemas today, we caught an early showing and rounded up five reasons why we think you’ll love it…

If you’re the type to hide behind the sofa when it comes to horror films, don’t worry…

Think of this more as a very gory comedy-thriller. There’s nothing particularly scary in concept or execution, but the fun comes from a combination of frenetic action, gory deaths and trying to guess whether the existential threat they face is real, or if everyone is just completely nuts. You’ll need a strong stomach, for sure, but it’s unlikely to give you nightmares.

The ensemble cast is superb...

There isn’t a tonne of depth to each of the characters in this weird and wild family, but there doesn’t need to be. The film gives you just enough of everything you need on that front and the performances across the board – especially the real scenery-chewing ones – are thoroughly entertaining from start to finish.

The soundtrack is really well-thought-out...

Brian Tyler’s score is unobtrusive when it needs to be, but employs some clever tricks and well-chosen pieces to really elevate the sense of creepy tension.

The action is quick and slick...

At 95 minutes it’s lean, mean and carrying absolutely no dead weight. The thrills keep on coming and the time just flies by.

The ending might be a little silly, but it’s incredibly satisfying...

What happens when you make a deal with the Devil and he comes to collect? That’s the question on everyone’s lips here, but you’ll have to wait until the very end to find out...
