"We shot Hugh Jackman fighting underwater, in a very deep tank, with a piano. That was scary..." - hmv.com talks to Lisa Joy & Daniel Wu
First emerging as a writer on ABC's comedy series Pushing Daisies and then as a producer on long-running spy drama Burn Notice, Lisa Joy has become best-known to most in recent years as the co-creator of HBO's hit sci-fi series Westworld, where she works alongside partner Jonathan Nolan.
This week Joy makes the leap into the director's chair for the first time with her debut feature Reminiscence, a mind-bending detective story that stars Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Ferguson alongside a cast that also includes Daniel Wu, Thandiwe Newton and Natalie Martinez.
Her new film stays very much in the sci-fi genre with a story set in a future Miami sunken by the rising waters of climate change, where private investigator Nick Bannister (Jackman) uses new technology designed to enable users to relive their past in order to help them uncover forgotten memories.
His life is turned upside down when a new client named Mae (Ferguson) mysteriously vanishes, leading him into an investigation into her disappearance that soon spirals into a dangerous obsession.
With Reminiscence in cinemas this Friday (August 20) and available to pre-order on DVD, Blu-Ray and Steelbook exclusive to hmv, we spoke to Lisa Joy and actor Daniel Wu, who stars opposite Jackman as dastardly drug dealer Saint Joe, about bringing a dystopian future Miami to life.
