Rip-roaring first trailer for historical drama Peterloo debuts online

A first trailer for Peterloo, the new film from Mike Leigh, has been unveiled. Click below to watch it:

David Bamber, Rory Kinnear, Nico Mirallegro, Maxine Peake, Pearce Quigley, Tim McInnerny and Philip Jackson come together to star in this historical drama.

The film tells the story behind the Peterloo massacre of 1819 in which 60,000 people from Manchester and surrounding towns gathered in St Peter’s Fields to demand Parliamentary reform and an extension of voting rights.

While the meeting was initially peaceful, an attempt to arrest a leader of the meeting riled the crowd and the armed government militias panicked and charged upon the crowd, killing and injuring many protestors.

Leigh, who was last on screen directing 2014's Mr. Turner, writes and directs.

Peterloo will be released into UK cinemas on November 2nd this year.

You can check out Leigh's back catalogue here in hmv's online store.
