Robert Downey Jr confirms plans for Sherlock Holmes 3
Robert Downey Jr has confirmed that a third instalment of Sherlock Holmes is now in development.
The actor was asked if there were plans for a third film during a Reddit AMA to promote his new thriller The Judge and confirmed that a third film in the series would be going ahead.
Asked if there would be a Sherlock Holmes 3, he said: "Yes, we have a Sherlock 3 in development. We want it to be the best of the series, so that's a pretty tall order."
The second Sherlock Holmes film to star Downey Jr as Holmes and Jude Law as Dr Watson was released in 2011. Despite grossing over $545 million at the box office, a sequel has yet to be formally confirmed by Warner Brothers.
The Judge, in which Downey Jr stars alongside Robert Duvall as a successful lawyer who is forced to return home to defend his estranged father against a murder charge, will be released into cinemas later this month
