Robert Downey Jr's new take on Doctor Dolittle delayed to 2020

Robert Downey Jr's new take on Doctor Dolittle has been delayed until early 2020.

The movie, which is titled The Voyage Of Doctor Dolittle, was originally due to hit cinemas on April 5th in 2019, but has been put back to a release date of January 17th in 2020.

Based on the second of author Hugh Lofting's books featuring the talented doctor who is able to communicate with animals, the film is set to feature a mixture of live action and animation.

Downey Jr. takes on the role of the film's titular protagonist alongside a live-action cast that includes Jim Broadbent, Antonio Banderas and Michael Sheen.

Ralph Fiennes, Emma Thompson, Marion Cotillard, Tom Holland, Mr. Robot stars Remi Malek and Craig Robinson, Portlandia's Kumail Nanjiani, Hidden Figures star Octavia Spencer and wrestler-turned-actor John Cena are among the film's voice cast.

Gold and Syriana director Stephen Gaghan is directing and has provided the script.

Doctor Dolittle has been adapted for the big screen twice before. First in 1967 with Rex Harrison in the title role and then again in 1998 with Eddie Murphy starring.
