Rogue One: A Star Wars Story star Diego Luna to play Tony Montana in new Scarface remake
Diego Luna, star of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Milk, has been cast in the iconic role of Tony Montana in a remake of iconic gangster thriller Scarface.
According to Variety, Luna, who played the role of Cassian in Rogue One, is attached to star in the project, which will no longer be directed by Antoine Fuqua, director of Training Day and Southpaw.
Fuqua had been keen to direct the project, but its schedule clashes with his sequel to The Equalizer and he has decided to commit to that.
The script has been in development for a few years, with Straight Outta Compton writer Jonathan Herman has written the most recent draft, while Suicide Squad writer and director David Ayer previously turning in a draft.
The story has been told twice before on the big screen, first in 1932 with director Howard Hawks and star Paul Muni, then most famously in 1983 with Brian De Palma directing Al Pacino.
The movie's 1983 version, which you can check out here in hmv's online store, told the story of Tony Montana, a Cuban immigrant who rises to take over a drug cartel.
