Roland Emmerich about to begin shooting on Independence Day 2
Filming is almost under way on the sequel to Roland Emmerich's 1996 blockbuster Independence Day, according to young actress Joey King, who tweeted on Monday that she was heading to start work on the long-awaited sequel.
Emmerich is returning to the director's chair for Independence Day 2, however Will Smith will not be reprising his role in the 1996 hit. Instead, Survivor's Remorse star Jesse Usher will be cast as the son of Smith's character, alongside King, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jeff Goldblum and Liam Hemsworth, although it has yet to be revealed what roles they will be appearing in.
Emmerich reposted King's tweet to his Facebook page, adding the words “New Mexico or bust! Less than two weeks until filming begins.”
The film is slated for release in June 2016.
