Romeo and Juliet to be remade in a "300 style world"
William Shakespeare's classic love story Romeo And Juliet looks set to brought to the big screen once again, but this time it will be set in a "300 style world", according to reports.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that this new version of the story of the star-crossed lovers will be retitled Verona and is being produced by Joe Roth, the man who has steered the reimaginings of Oz The Great And Powerful, Alice In Wonderland and Maleficent to the big screen. The report also states that the idea is "to reimagine the classic love story through a lens of an epic, 300-style world."
There is no word on casting or directors at this point, with the film coming from a spec script from writers Neil Widener and Gavin James.
Romeo and Juliet was last brought to the big screen in 2013 with Douglas Booth and Hailee Steinfeld in the leading roles, but has most famously been filmed by Franco Zeffirelli and Baz Luhrmann, the latter of whom cast an unknown Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes in the title roles.
