Ryan Coogler signs up to write and direct Black Panther 2

Ryan Coogler will return to write and direct the sequel to Black Panther.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Coogler will begin work on the script for the sequel in early 2019 with a view to cameras rolling later that year or in the early part of 2020.

Coogler is currently acting as executive producer on both the Creed sequel as well as the long-awaited Space Jam reboot.

He is also developing a drama named Wrong Answer with Black Panther villain and Creed star Michael B. Jordan.

News of a Black Panther sequel comes as no surprise after its box office takings, which topped off at $1.3 billion worldwide.

Black Panther starred Chadwick Boseman in the title role, with Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis in the supporting cast.

Boseman led the way as King T’Challa, who returns home to Wakanda to find his sovereignty challenged by factions within his own country.

Things get especially tricky when two enemies conspire to bring down the kingdom, to stop them T’Challa must team up, as the Black Panther, with Freeman's C.I.A. agent Everett K. Ross and members of the Dora Milaje, Wakanda's special force, to prevent a world war breaking out.
