Saoirse Ronan and Annette Bening star in the quirky first trailer for The Seagull
Saoirse Ronan, Elisabeth Moss and Annette Bening star in the first trailer for The Seagull, a new irreverent take on Anton Chekhov's classic play.
Directed by Michael Mayer, best known for bringing Green Day's American Idiot and controversial musical Spring Awakening to Broadway, the film also stars House Of Cards' Corey Stoll, Dunkirk breakout star Billy Howle and Major Crimes' Jon Tenney.
Chekhov's story is set in his native Russia, though in this new take all the actors use their original accents.
The narrative follows Bening's Irina Arkadina, an aging actress who pays summer visits to her brother Pjotr Nikolayevich Sorin and her son Konstantin on a country estate.
On one occasion, she brings Boris Trigorin, a successful novelist, with her. Nina, a free and innocent girl on a neighbouring estate, falls in love with Boris Trigorin, a relationship that is short-lived, but with long consequences...
The Seagull will be released into US cinemas on May 11th, with a UK release date set to be confirmed shortly.
