Sequel to The Railway Children to be released in 2022
A sequel to classic family adventure, The Railway Children, will be released in 2022.
Released in 1970, The Railway Children is an adaptation of E. Nesbit's novel and starred Jenny Agutter, Sally Thomsett, Gary Warren, Dinah Sheridan and Bernard Cribbins.
It follows three children, who, after the enforced absence of their father, move with their mother to Yorkshire where they attempt to discover the reason for his disappearance.
The sequel, which is to be titled The Railway Children Return, will see Agutter, who played one of the children, return to reprise her role, while Sheridan Smith and Tom Courtenay will also star.
The story will follow a group of children who are evacuated to a Yorkshire village during World War II, where they encounter a young soldier who, like them, is far from home.
Morgan Matthews will direct the film, working from a script from BRASSIC writer Danny Brocklehurst. Shooting for the sequel will take in Oakworth Station, Haworth, and The Bronte Parsonage, all of which featured in the original.
