Sex Tape: What You Need To Know
Released on DVD & Blu-Ray this week (December 29th), Sex Tape chronicles every couple's worst nightmare when a private video of them at their most intimate suddenly becomes public. Here's everything you need to know...
Who's in it?
Jason Segel and Cameron Diaz star as the couple in question in this awkward comedy helmed by director Jake Kasdan, the man behind films like Bad Teacher and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. There are also appearances from Rob Lowe, who plays Annie's boss Hank, as well Californication's Rob Corddry and The Office's Ellie Kemper, both of whom star as Jay and Annie's friends Robby and Tess.
What's the plot?
After 10 years of marriage and two children, Jay (Segel) and Annie (Diaz) are looking for a way to put the spark back into their sex lives, so they decide to make a video of themselves trying out every position in Alex Comfort and Susan Quilliam's celebrated 70s shagging bible The Joy Of Sex. However, the couple's post-coital afterglow is soon disrupted as they realise that their video has been uploaded to the cloud and shared with several other devices, namely the ones owned by their friends, family and, perhaps worst of all, Annie's boss.
When the couple realise that their privacy is about to become very, very public, Jay and Annie embark on a mad scramble to locate the laptops, iPads and other devices in question before their sex tape is released into the public domain.
Does it deliver?
The film is a lot more enjoyable than some of the less charitable reviews would suggest and although the plot means that a lot of the gags are telegraphed, the cast is well chosen and Segel and Diaz in particular turn in some impressive comedic performances. There are a handful of genuine laugh out loud moments and it still makes a better job of the plot idea than the lamentable Zack & Miri Make A Porno.
