"It's a 14-year old boy in a superhero body, there's no other superhero like that..." - hmv.com talks Shazam! with Zachary Levi and Mark Strong

Since the arrival of 2013's Man of Steel, the DC Extended Universe has offered up several big screen incarnations of some of DC's most celebrated comic book characters, such as Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, as well as some of the lesser-known ones such as those featured in Justice League, but this week sees one the longest-running characters in comic book history make his debut on cinema screens for the very first time.

Shazam! stars Zachary Levi as the titular superhero, with Andi Mack star Asher Angel in the role of his teenage alter-ego Billy Batson, a troubled boy who has grown up in several foster homes. After being arrested by child services, Billy is moved into a new foster home owned by Victor Vaquez (Cooper Andrews) and his wife Rosa (Marta Milans), where he reluctantly befriends one of the couple's other foster children, a comic-book enthusiast named Freddy (Jack Dylan Grazer).

When Billy is mysteriously abducted while riding the subway, he finds himself face to face with an ageing wizard who imbues Billy with his magical powers, transforming the teenager into a fully-grown (and fully costumed) adult, with a range of superhuman abilities. Just as Billy is getting to grips with his new powers, he is confronted by the sinister Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong), the scion of a wealthy businessman who has had his own experience with the mysterious wizard and who wants to claim the hero's superpowers for his own nefarious ends.

Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation director David F. Sandberg is helming the new movie, and with Shazam! heading into cinemas this Friday (April 5th) we sat down with Zachary Levi and Mark Strong for a chat about bringing Shazam! to the big screen.
