Sherlock and True Detective clean up at the BAFTA Television Awards

The two (very different) tales of crime-fighting duos were among the winner’s at last night’s (May 10th) ceremony.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman’s Sherlock won the Radio Times Audience Award at last night’s BAFTA Television Awards, beating the likes of Game of Thrones, EastEnders and Strictly Come Dancing in the category voted for by the public. Cumberbatch himself, though, wasn’t awarded the title of Best Leading Actor, with that heading to the Jason Watkins’ mantelpiece for his role in ITV’s mini-series The Last Honour of Christopher Jeffries.

Elsewhere, True Detective won the International Award beating House of Cards, Orange Is The New Black and The Good Wife to the honour. It now joins the likes of Breaking Bad and Girls as a winner of the award.

Graham Norton hosted the ceremony last night in London’s Theatre Royal which also saw Georgina Campbell win the Leading Actress award for her role in Murdered By My Boyfriend, while Coronation Street won the Soap and Continuing Drama award.

Clive James also won a BAFTA Special Award, while Channel 4 News’ Jon Show was bestowed with a BAFTA Fellowship.
