Short new preview for Jordan Peele's Candyman reboot unveiled
A new preview for Candyman, a reboot and spiritual sequel to the horror classic, has been unveiled. Click below to watch it:
Candyman is a one-armed man with a hook for a hand who appears when you say his name five times, in front of a mirror.
In the 1992 film, the character, who is thought to be a myth, he is brought back to life by grad student Helen Lyle, who has decided to write a thesis about local legends and myths.
Aquaman star Yahya Abdul-Mateen leads the way, with Teyonah Parris, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett and Colman Domingo in supporting roles. Tony Todd, who played the character in the 1992 movie, is back once again.
In the new movie, Abdul-Mateen plays visual artist Anthony McCoy, who has just moved into a flat with his girlfriend. With his career stalling, a chance encounter exposes him to the tragically horrific nature of the true story behind Candyman.
Anxious to maintain his status in the Chicago art world, Anthony begins to explore these macabre details in his studio as fresh grist for paintings, unknowingly opening a door to a complex past that unravels his own sanity and unleashes a terrifyingly viral wave of violence that puts him on a collision course with destiny.
Jordan Peele has produced the movie and has co-written the script with Win Rosenfeld, with Nia DaCosta, director of dark drama Little Woods, on directing duty.
The film was due to hit UK cinemas on July 12th, but was delayed amid the coronavirus pandemic. It will now be released on September 25th, two weeks after it hits cinemas in the US.
