Sigourney Weaver reveals Neill Blomkamp's Alien 5 will ignore Alien 3 and Resurrection
Sigourney Weaver has revealed that the fifth instalment of Alien will not follow the storylines set up in the third and fourth movie in the series.
The movie, which is currently on hold while Ridley Scott works on his new trilogy of Alien prequels, will be directed by Neill Blomkamp, best known for directing Chappie and District 9.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Weaver said when asked if the movie continues with the storyline set down in Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection: "It’s just as if, you know, the path forks and one direction goes off to three and four and another direction goes off to Neill’s movie."
She also added that she would be "really surprised" if Blomkamp's movie didn't come out, despite the delays that have come about due to Alien: Covenant, adding: "I always wanted to complete this story and it wasn't really until Neill and I started talking that I said, 'This is why we waited however many years it's been.'"
Alien: Covenant, which is due out next year, will star Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender, who both return after Prometheus, as well as a newly cast Danny McBride, Katherine Waterston, Demián Bichir, Jussie Smollett, Amy Seimetz, Carmen Ejogo, Callie Hernandez, Billy Crudup, Alexander England and Benjamin Rigby.
