Simon Pegg to co-write Star Trek 3
Simon Pegg is to co-write Star Trek 3, it was revealed yesterday (January 21st).
Pegg, who has starred as engineer Montgomery 'Scotty' Scott in the first two instalments of the new franchise, will co-write the script with writer Don Jung, creator of hit series Dark Blue.
This isn't Pegg's first writing gig, he co-wrote Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World's End with Edgar Wright as well as knockabout comedy Run Fatboy Run. He and Jung began work on the script this week.
Last month Justin Lin, best known for directing four instalments of the Fast & Furious franchise, signed up to direct Star Trek 3.
Robert Orci, who acted as both writer and producer on Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness, will now no longer direct the third instalment. Orci had been announced as the film's director earlier this year, replacing JJ Abrams who left to work on Star Wars, but has now returned to his role as producer.
Shooting on the next Star Trek film is expected to commence next year after the script is complete, with stars Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin and John Cho are all expected to return.
Lin will begin work on the film as soon as he has finished his role as director on the first two episodes of True Detective.
