Skyscraper - Five Reasons You’ll Love It

After tackling a 30-foot gorilla, wolf and crocodile and almost single-handedly saving Chicago in Rampage, you might think Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson would fancy something a little more low-key for his next cinematic outing, but not a bit of it.

In Skyscraper, he stars as Will Sawyer, a former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader and war veteran, who, after losing his leg in combat, now assesses security for skyscrapers.

At the start of the movie, we find Sawyer and his family living in the world’s tallest skyscraper in Hong Kong, a building known as The Pearl.

Asked to assess the building, Will praises the tower’s safety, but also points out the risks of the structure. Then, when the building suddenly finds itself ablaze, Will finds himself in deep trouble as he’s been framed for it.

Now on the run, Will must find those responsible for the fire, clear his name and somehow rescue his family, who are trapped inside the building.

Neve Campbell, Chin Han, Roland Møller, Pablo Schreiber and Noah Taylor co-star, while Rawson M. Thurber, who directed Johnson in Central Intelligence, is in charge.

The movie arrives in stores on Monday on DVD, Blu-Ray and Blu-Ray and hmv exclusive Steelbook, here are five reasons why you’ll love this towering action thriller….

The action sequences are incredible…

When The Rock does action, you know you’re in for a treat and here there are plenty of treats, especially one particularly brutal encounter right at the start of the movie.

The skyscraper is quite something…

Director Rawson Marshall Thurber has succeeded in making the thing seem truly colossal and terrifying to scale, which is just as well, because Johnson spends a lot of time clinging to the side of it...

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson continues to show his acting prowess...

Johnson is on screen for a good 90% of Skyscraper, largely by himself, with many of the movie's biggest thrills just him versus a raging inferno. There aren't many actors who could keep an audience engaged for that time, or be able to pull it off, but Johnson must definitely can.

Roland Møller is an excellent villain...

You'll have seen Møller in menacing form in Atomic Blonde and The Commuter and he's on similarly uncompromising form here. Kores Botha, a mercenary who wants to bring down the skyscraper. He's an excellent foil for Johnson.

It’s a lean thriller…

Coming in at 102 minutes, nothing in this movie outstays its welcome and straight into the action from the word go.

Skyscraper is out on Monday November 19th - you can find it here in our online store.
