Speculation persists that director Sam Taylor-Johnson won’t be involved in Fifty Shades sequel
Neither Taylor-Johnson nor screenwriter Kelly Marcel are going to be involved in the hit film’s sequel, if reports online today are to be believed.
It’s the most talked about movie of the year so far and generating massive box office revenue so it’s only natural that talk of a sequel has already begun. A second film adaptation is in the works based on EL James Fifty Shades Darker novel and is tentatively scheduled for a 2016 release.
Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson are both expected to return but the big chances might be taking place behind the camera, after Variety reported that James is seeking to have greater control of the sequel and wants to pen the film’s screenplay.
This could delay the planned filming which was slated for this summer.
Universal Picture responded to the news with a statement, saying: “The studio had always intended to sit down with the author after the film opened and discuss next steps and that has not yet happened.”
