Spider-Man director Jon Watts leaves Fantastic Four movie
For those who have been enjoying Jon Watts’ stint in the director’s chair for the recent run of Spider-Man movies there was some surprising news over the weekend as Watts announced that he was stepping away from the Fantastic Four movie that was set to be his next project.
According to a statement given by Watts himself the reason behind his decision is simply to do with taking a break after having such a hectic Marvel schedule in the last few years.
Marvel heads Kevin Feige and Louis D’Esposito said in an accompanying statement: "Collaborating with Jon on the Spider-Man films has been a true pleasure. We were looking forward to continuing our work with him to bring the Fantastic Four into the MCU but understand and are supportive of his reasons for stepping away. We are optimistic that we will have the opportunity to work together again at some point down the road."
Watts is also understood to working on an as-yet-untitled thriller starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney, a film which he signed up with Apple to create in September last year.
There’s no word on who will replace Watts as yet, but the search for a new director could see a Fantastic Four movie take a little longer to arrive than MCU fans might have hoped. That said, although the project was announced in 2019 there has still been no mooted release date for the film so far.
