Director Jon Watts opens up about making Spider-Man: Homecoming...

Since Sam Raimi's revival of Stan Lee's web-slinging superhero Spider-Man in 2002, there have been no fewer than five Spidey films on the big screen, with both Tobey Maguire and then Andrew Garfield putting their own spin on the role of Peter Parker and his crime-fighting alter-ego.

But because of the complicated ownership rights to Marvel's characters, and despite the fact that Spider-Man is perhaps one of Marvel's most famous creations, it wasn't until last year's Captain America: Civil War that we got the first proper introduction to Spider-Man in the context of the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe (notwithstanding that cheeky appearance of a young Peter in Iron Man 2).

However, having finally got to meet Spider-Man as a member of the Avengers, this week sees the newly-rebooted character get a movie all to himself in Spider-Man: Homecoming, which finds a young Peter trying to balance his school life with that of a wall-crawling, ass-kicking superhero.

Jon Watts is the director helming the new film, which stars Tom Holland in the lead role alongside a cast that includes Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Marissa Tomei, Jon Favreau and Donald Glover. With the film hitting DVD shelves on Monday (November 20th), we sat down with the director talk about his vision for the character and where he'll fit in to the MCU over the next few years.
