"This movie is the most ambitious thing we've ever been a part of..." - hmv.com talks to Phil Lord & Chris Miller
With films such as The LEGO Movie and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs to their names, Phil Lord and Chris Miller are no strangers to animation, but when Sony asked them if they'd be interested in creating a new animated feature starring Marvel's wall-crawling hero Spider-Man, they set themselves the challenge of making an animated feature film unlike anything anyone has ever seen before.
Based around Lord's screenplay and with he and Miller acting as producers, the pair recruited no fewer than three directors - Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman - to help realise their vision. Featuring an impressive voice cast which includes Shameik Moore, Nicolas Cage, Mahershala Ali, Liev Schreiber, Chris Pine, Jake Johnson and Hailey Steinfeld, amongst many others, the new film takes a bold approach by basing the film not around Peter Parker, but around Miles Morales, the Afro-Latina teenager created by Sara Pichelli who first appeared in the Ultimate Spider-Man storylines.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sees the young Miles coming to terms with his new-found abilities while discovering that Wilson 'Kingpin' Fisk has created a machine which creates a portal to other dimensions, sucking in various other Spider-Man incarnations from other dimensions. In order to stop Kingpin from destroying New York and rupturing the fabric of the universe, Miles and his new friends must team up to stop Kingpin's plan and return them all to their home dimensions before it's too late.
