"We knew something special was happening on the set..." hmv.com talks to M. Night Shyamalan and Anya Taylor-Joy
Ever since the huge success of his second feature film The Sixth Sense in 1999, director M. Night Shyamalan has had a reputation for edge-of-your-seat thrillers with twisting plots and his latest film, Split, is no different in that respect.
The new film features a tour-de-force performance from James McAvoy, starring as a man with multiple personality disorder who kidnaps three young women and holds them captive in his basement in preparation for something, but he won't tell them what. While some of his 23 different personalities are fairly reasonable - sweet, even - the nastier ones are vying for control and, to make matters worse, a 24th is about to make an entrance and he may well be the worst of the bunch.
Co-starring alongside McAvoy is Anya Taylor-Joy and with Shyamalan's new film now out on DVD, we sat down with the director and Taylor-Joy to talk about working on the new movie, why this idea has taken a long time to be realised and experiencing an acting masterclass from James McAvoy.
