With Boyhood director Richard Linklater has made the best coming of age film ever. It traces the life of Mason (a fantastic performance by  Ellar Coltrane) from the ages of 6 to 18 and every up and down he experiences growing up.

Boyhood was filmed bit by bit over a period of 12 years so you get to see Mason actually grow up on screen and is enthralling to watch. Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke are both excellent as his dependable mum and sometimes deadbeat dad.

This is a film that is in turns funny, sad and poignant as we go on a journey in the life of Mason.  Boyhood is a stunning feat of filmmaking and a highly recommended watch and even though the film is almost 3 hours long, it completely flies by.
