Star Trek star Anton Yelchin dies aged 27

Anton Yelchin, best known for his roles in Star Trek, Alpha Dog and Terminator: Salvation, has died at the age of 27.

Yelchin died yesterday (June 19th) in a tragic accident at his home in Los Angeles. He was killed after his own car struck him after rolling backwards down the steep drive at his Studio City home, pinning him against a brick postbox pillar and a security fence.

The actor, who was born in St Petersburg but moved to the United States as a baby, was best known for his role as Pavel Chekov in the new series of Star Trek movies, which were rebooted by JJ Abrams in 2009.

He also starred in indie hits Only Lovers Left Alive, Charlie Bartlett and drew rave reviews for his role in violent thriller Green Room, which was released earlier this year.

Yelchin will appear posthumously in next month's Star Trek Beyond.

Many of Yelchin's co-stars and fellow actors have paid tribute to him and you can read some of the tributes here.
