Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker - Five Reasons You'll Love It

After nine films and over seven and a half-billion dollars in the box office receipts, the curtain comes down on Star Wars' Skywalker saga this week, with the release of Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker

Twice rebooted, always beloved, this series has defined many a childhood, many an adulthood and continues to define much of contemporary cinema. It deserves to end with one hell of a send-off.

Daisy Ridley, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson are back to star, with Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant and Keri Russell joining the cast.

The Rise Of Skywalker picks up a year after the events of The Last Jedi, we watch on as the remnants of the Resistance face the First Order once again. As well as this, meanwhile, the ancient conflict between the Jedi and the Sith will reach its climax...

Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker is out now in UK cinemas and will be released on DVD in 2020. You can pre-order it here from hmv's online store.

But, before that, we caught an early screening and have rounded up five reasons why you'll love the final act in the epic saga...

The ante is upped significantly...

In this trilogy and in the rest of the saga there have been some incredible action sequences, but it's taken to a new level in The Rise Of Skywalker. There are epic chases, some thrilling battles and intense face-offs.

This is Adam Driver's film...

Now shorn off a master, Driver's Kylo Ren is off the leash and out on his adventure. His casting in this role was a masterstroke and watching him grow into this role has been incredible. He defines so much of what's great about these new films, and this movie, in particular.

There are plenty of surprises...

From surprise cameos, brief appearances by brief names and a few blasts from the pasts, the warmth of the saga is shown off in this final instalment.

The new cast members are well-chosen...

Richard E. Grant is a brilliant, snivelling First Order general, Keri Russell is a gun-toting smuggler and Naomi Ackie is a world-weary resistance ally. They're all perfectly cast and add to the ensemble.

It's a clean break...

So, for the first time in a long while, there's no plan for what happens next. We know there will be more Star Wars films, there are confirmed release dates, but what kind they'll be? No idea. For this film, that means there's no pressure to set anything up, so the ending can go foot to the floor. For the future, well, it's just exciting, isn't it?
