Star Wars: The Last Jedi's Rian Johnson to team up with Daniel Craig for new detective drama
Rian Johnson, director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, is to team up with 007 star Daniel Craig for a new detective drama.
The film, which is titled Knives Out, will shoot later this year and is billed as a contemporary murder mystery. It is currently awaiting pick-up from a studio, with an auction for the script expected to begin later this week.
Craig has become available to take the role after production on the new James Bond film was delayed after the departure of director Danny Boyle.
Speaking to Deadline about the casting of Craig, Johnson said: “I have been a huge fan and always wanted to work with him and as I worked on the script, trying to get it right, Ram and I were wringing our hands over who could be the detective."
He continued: "Then, serendipitously, we heard Daniel might have a small window, and it worked out. He’s an actor of extraordinary range, and we are looking forward to the fun of finding that modern detective, and collaborating with Daniel on creating a new Poirot.”
Craig's next Bond outing, which is currently known as Bond 25, is widely expected to be his last as 007.
Spectre, Bond's last outing, is out now on DVD and available to order from hmv's online store by clicking on the icon on the right-hand side of the page. You can check out the full Bond catalogue here in hmv's online store.
