Stellan Skarsgard, Rebecca Ferguson and more join cast for Dune reboot
Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgard and Dave Bautista have signed up for key roles in the reboot of sci-fi classic Dune.
Denis Villeneuve, best known for directing Arrival, Sicario and the new Blade Runner sequel Blade Runner 2049, is booked to take charge of the reboot, with Forest Gump screenwriter Eric Roth currently working on the adaptation.
Dune is a hugely successful novel by Frank Herbert and tells the story of Paul Atreides, the eldest son of a wealthy family who assume control of the planet Arrakis. The planet is largely desert, but it is the only producer of melange, a resource essential for intergalactic travel and hugely valuable.
A coup to gain control of the planet leads to his father being murdered and Paul vowing to get his revenge on those who did it.
Call Me By Your Name star Timothée Chalamet will play Paul, with Skarsgard portraying the film's villain Baron Harkonnen.
Ferguson will play Atreides' mother, while Bautista will be the Baron's brutish nephew, Glossou "Beast" Rabban.
Production on the movie will begin in Spring, with the film set to shoot in Jordan and Budapest.
The novel has been adapted for the screen, first by David Lynch for a 1984 movie that starred Kyle MacLachlan and Francesca Annis and then in 2000 for television.
