Steven Moffat opens up about plans for Sherlock's 2015 Christmas special
Sherlock co-creator Steven Moffat has opened up about his plans for the show's forthcoming return, specifically the Christmas special that will be broadcast later this year.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly before undertaking a panel at SXSW Festival, Moffat has revealed that the special will be set in Victorian England and is "a separate entity on its own", not the next chapter for Holmes and Watson.
He said: "The special is its own thing. We wouldn’t have done the story we’re doing, and the way we’re doing it, if we didn’t have this special. It’s not part of the run of three episodes."
He continued: "So we had this to do it – as we could hardly conceal – it’s Victorian. Mark Gatiss and me, we wanted to do this, but it had to be a special, it had to be separate entity on its own. It’s kind of in its own little bubble."
A transmission date for the special has yet to be announced, but rumours suggest it is likely to be in the days after Christmas.
