A new trailer for The Many Saints Of Newark, the long-awaited movie prequel to The Sopranos, has been unveiled. Click below to watch it:
The film will follow the life of young Anthony Soprano, who would go on to lead the hit HBO drama.
It will chronicle his upbringing in one of the most tumultuous eras in Newark’s history, becoming a man just as rival gangsters begin to rise up and challenge the all-powerful DiMeo crime family’s hold over the increasingly race-torn city.
Caught up in the changing times is the uncle he idolizes, Dickie Moltisanti, who struggles to manage both his professional and personal responsibilities—and whose influence over his nephew will help make the impressionable teenager into the all-powerful mob boss we all came to know...
Michael Gandolfi, son of James Gandolfini, who portrayed Tony Soprano in the drama, plays his father's younger self, with Alessandro Nivola, Leslie Odom Jr., Jon Bernthal, Corey Stoll, Billy Magnussen, Ray Liotta and Vera Farmiga among the supporting cast.
Alan Taylor, director of Thor: The Dark World and Terminator: Genisys, is in charge, working from a script from series creator David Chase and Lawrence Konner.
The Sopranos ran for six seasons, from 1999 to 2007 and followed fictional New Jersey mobster Tony Soprano as he deals with personal and professional issues in his home and business life.
Taylor, who has also directed a number of episodes of Game Of Thrones, has history with The Sopranos. He has directed episodes of The Sopranos in four of the show’s six seasons.
The Many Saints Of Newark will hit UK cinemas on September 22nd.
