A first trailer for Dune, the new take on the epic sci-fi novel, has been unveiled. Click below to watch it:
Dune is a hugely successful novel by Frank Herbert and tells the story of Paul Atreides, the eldest son of a wealthy family who assume control of the planet Arrakis.
The planet is largely desert, but it is the only producer of melange, a resource essential for intergalactic travel and hugely valuable.
A coup to gain control of the planet leads to his father being murdered and Paul vowing to get his revenge on those who did it.
Call Me By Your Name star Timothée Chalamet plays Paul, with Stellan Skarsgard portraying the film's villain Baron Harkonnen.
Josh Brolin is swordsman and Atreides family ally Gurney Halleck, Oscar Isaac Isaac is the father of Chalamet’s character in the movie, Duke Leo Atreides and Charlotte Rampling plays the emperor's truthsayer Reverend Mother Mohiam.
Rebecca Ferguson plays Atreides' mother, while Dave Bautista is the Baron's brutish nephew, Glossou "Beast" Rabban.
As well as that, Jason Mamoa is Duncan Idaho, a skilled pilot and swordfighter, with Javier Bardem playing Stilgar, a Fremen leader of a tribe that assists Paul in battle, and Zendeya portraying Chani, Atreides' love interest.
Denis Villeneuve, best known for directing Arrival, Sicario and the new Blade Runner sequel Blade Runner 2049, is behind the camera, with Jon Spaihts, Eric Roth and Villeneuve himself adapting Herbert's book.
The novel has been adapted for the screen, first by David Lynch for a 1984 movie that starred Kyle MacLachlan and Francesca Annis and then in 2000 for television.
Dune will be released into UK cinemas on December 18th this year.
