Super Troopers sequel gets go ahead after successful crowdfunding campaign
A sequel to cult comedy Super Troopers is moving into production after the film garnered more than $4.4million via an online crowdfunding campaign.
The 2001 original, developed by comedy troupe Broken Lizard, starred Jay Chandreskhar, Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme and was a massive hit with comedy fans and college audiences alike.
Fox Searchlight agreed to put out the film if the producers raised a target of $2million, a figure which was achieved just one day into the campaign.
A message posted by the film’s producers on Indiegogo.com read: “Thanks to you, it’s official: Super Troopers 2 will shoot later this year!
“To the 50,000+ fans who stepped up and kicked ass: Thank you from the bottom of our hearsts, which have grown three sizes in the last month.”
The script for the movie has already been written and the movie is expected to begin shooting this summer.
