Taika Waititi in talks to take charge of new Star Wars movie
Taika Waititi, director of Jojo Rabbit and What We Do In The Shadows, has been approached to develop a Star Wars movie.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Waititi has been approached, but there are no more details than that.
Waititi is currently in pre-production on Thor: Love And Thunder, which will see Natalie Portman also returning to star.
Portman will reprise her role as Jane Foster, though this time she will be taking on the mantle of a female incarnation of Thor.
Co-star Tessa Thompson will also return as Valkyrie, while Christian Bale is in talks to join the cast.
Thor: Love and Thunder is due to go into production later this year and is planned for release in November 2021.
The approach for Waititi comes after Game Of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss abandoned plans to write and produce a new Star Wars trilogy.
The pair had signed up to write three films that would be coming to cinemas in 2022, 2024 and 2026, but have now exited to focus on their work with Netflix.
The final instalment in the Skywalker saga, Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker, is in cinemas now.
Rian Johnson, director of 2017's The Last Jedi, continues to work on a planned new trilogy, but there is no word on when that can be expected in cinemas.
