Taika Waititi's What We Do In The Shadows TV spinoff secures its first series
Taika Waititi's star has been rising rapidly in recent years, earning universal critical acclaim for his movie Hunt for the Wilderpeople and helming a huge hit for Marvel with Thor: Ragnarok, arguably the best Thor movie we've seen on the bug screen yet.
Recently the New Zealand-born director and Flight of the Conchords star Jemaine Clement have been in discussions about a TV spinoff of their excellent 2014 comedy What We Do in the Shadows, a cinéma-vérité-style 'documentary' following the surprisingly mundane lives of a group of vampires.
Now it has been confirmed that the TV series has been given the green light for its first season, with American network FX ordering a 10-episode run. Waititi has already shot the pilot episode and he and Clement will executive produce, with Clement providing the scripts for the new series, but they will not be reprising their roles from the film. Instead, the series will feature an all-new cast that includes Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou and Harvey Guillen, and will be set in New York.
The basic idea however looks likely to remain the same; four vampires sharing a flat in New York City and being very, very silly. The show is expected to be broadcast next year.
