The Affair to end after five seasons

Hit drama The Affair is to end after five seasons next year.

The series stars Dominic West, Ruth Wilson, Joshua Jackson and Maura Tierney and told the story of the emotional effects of an extramarital relationship between a New York school teacher and a young waitress.

Showtime president Gary Levine confirmed the show would bow out after five seasons yesterday (July 26th), he said: "We love the intimacy, the nuance and the emotional honesty of The Affair's subjective examination of both infidelity and fidelity."

He continued: "Sarah Treem has always envisioned this as a five-season series, and we will be fascinated to see where she takes her talented cast and all of us next year in its climactic season."

The show's fourth season has just aired on Sky Atlantic and a fifth will go into production later this year in time for release in 2019.
