"What I think Matt Reeves has done very cleverly is create a Gotham that speaks to 'the now'..." - hmv.com talks The Batman with Andy Serkis & Dylan Clark
Creating a reboot of a charcater as well-known as DC's caped vigilante Batman is always a daunting task, but director Matt Reeves brings his own take on Gotham City's shadow-dwelling antihero to cinema screens this week in what must surely rank as one of the year's most hotly-anticipated movies yet.
Robert Pattinson becomes the latest actor to tackle the twin roles of Batman and Bruce Wayne, but rather than retread old ground with more origin story scenes of Thomas Wayne's demise in a dimly-lit alley, Pattinson and Reeves bring a new sense of gritty realism to Gotham City, with a Bruce Wayne who is much less playboy and far more human and raw than you may be used to.
Starring alongside Pattinson is a cast that includes Jeffery Wright as Police Commisioner Gordon, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, Paul Dano as an asolutely terrifying Riddler and Andy Serkis, who becomes the latest in a string of fine actors to take on the role of Bruce Wayne's long-serving butler and father figure, Alfred Pennyworth.
With The Batman heading into UK cinemas this Friday (March 4) we spoke to Andy Serkis and producer Dylan Clark about Matt Reeves' vision for Gotham and its nocturnal protector.
